Frequently Asked Questions

Is there an out of pocket cost?

You will be asked for your health insurance information when registering for a PCR test. If using your insurance for the PCR test, you will most likely not have any out of pocket cost if the following conditions apply to you:

  • You are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19
  • You have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19

We do not bill insurance for the Rapid Antigen test and there is a self pay price of $79 for that test.

If none of the above criteria apply to you or you wish to pay cash, there will be a charge for PCR testing.

Do I need an appointment?

While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are welcome and will be directed to register on-site. Please note that your registration and wait time may be slightly longer if you are a walk-in patient.

Multiple people in my household need to get tested. Should I make an appointment for each person?

Yes, every individual who is being tested needs to have an appointment made for them. If there is not enough availability, schedule their appointment for later in the same day or the next day and we will do our best to accommodate everyone at the earliest appointment time.

Should I arrive early for my appointment?

No, there is no need to arrive early for your appointment.

Do I need to self-quarantine?

If you have symptoms of COVID-19, or have been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, you should self-quarantine according to CDC guidance. If you are symptomatic and awaiting your test results, members of your household should also consider themselves at risk of exposure.

What Are Rapid Antigen Tests

Rapid antigen testing for COVID-19 is a diagnostic test that quickly and directly detects the presence or absence of SARS-CoV-2, in about 60 minutes. While rapid antigen testing can provide results quickly, PCR provides the most sensitive testing. If you are symptomatic, a PCR test may be recommended to confirm a negative antigen test result. Rapid antigen testing is not intended for asymptomatic patients. Rapid antigen tests are often not acceptable for travel purposes so you will want to check your destination's COVID restrictions to see what kind of test is accepted.

What test is performed?

NxGen MDx uses a PCR or rapid antigen test (depending on your selection) which both look for active infections only. At this time we do not administer antibody tests which indicate whether a patient had an infection in the past.

What variants does this test detect?

The COVID-19 test detects multiple genetic targets as recommended by the FDA to reduce susceptibility to false negatives. NxGen’s COVID-19 Test currently includes three targets. Current SARS-CoV-2 variants of concern are discussed in detail below.

Alpha, Omicron - The B.1.1.7 (Alpha) and B.1.1.529 (Omicron)

Beta, Delta, Gamma - B.1.351 (Beta), P.1 (Gamma), or 1.617.2 (Delta) variants.

How is the sample collected?

The test is collected via nasal swab. Staff onsite will administer the nasal swab and/or direct you on saliva collection. For minor children, a parent or guardian can administer the swab or, if needed, our nurse onsite can administer it.

Can I use this test for the purposes of traveling?

Whether or not our test is accepted as proof of testing depends on where you are traveling to. Some states (or countries, if traveling internationally) may only accept tests from certain laboratories. In addition they may only accept certain sample types such as a nasopharyngeal swab. Please check the restrictions of the location you will be traveling to for specific details.

What is the turnaround time for testing & where can I find my results?

You will receive your results via the email that you provided at the time of registration. PCR results should arrive in about 48 hours. Rapid results should be ready in about 1 hour. If you do not receive your results, please check your spam/junk folder for your results before contacting NxGen MDx about them.
